I am the proud daughter of Pvt Thomas Cabido Cabrera. My Dad served with the 821st and was wounded in St Lo. My Dad is alive and well in Rialto California living with my Mom. I am the proud granddaughter of pfc Walter B. Johnson. I can remember my grandfather used to love and sit and tell some pf his war stories to me all the time when I was younger I could probably tell you everyone of them by heart. Since he passed away in 1997 I havent gotten to hear him tell those stories anymore. If anyone knew him I would love to hear from you.

My Great Uncle Mario Campi speaks very fondly of the men he served with in the 821st Tank Destroyer Battalion. He is alive and well and takes the time to share with me some of the heroic accounts he encountered with the battalion. I am very thankful to have such a hero in the family! Thanks to all who served, You guys are truly the Greatest Generation!

Greetings and good wishes to members and families of the 821st.
This is about my father, Joseph Palmer, who was inducted into the army 7 Jan 1943, discharged 31 Dec 1945, at Fort Mc Arthur, Los Angeles, Ca. He passed away on 1 Jan 1977.
Dad served in the 821st, in training at Fort Hood, Texas, in Kentucky and Tennessee, a military history of locations closely resembling those described by James S. Rice in his posting about Milton Brodsky on this site. I believe that Dad was assigned to Headquarter Company, but I’m not certain. Dad’s departure from the U.S. to England was on 7 April 1944, he arrived in England 17th April 1944, and served with the 29th Inf Division at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
We have located photographs of a portion of his (unnamed) platoon in “Southhampton” and a photo of “Reinheimer & Pilator” at an unidentified location in England. If these names relate, please let me know. I can copy the photograph for you. Dad survived the war but never fully recovered and did not care to talk about his experiences except that, overtime, he related that most of his buddies were lost in Belgium, and in or near Aachen, Germany.
Most of those who served are gone now. However, hopefully this information may be helpful. And, "thank you" Rod, for this site and the contributions made by everyone.

I had a neighbor and good friend who was a tank commander with the 821st, B Company. His name was Bill Rinkle. Bill won the Silver Star in Jackerath, Germany, 27 February 1945. I was disappointed that the history on this website does not go thru the end of the war. If anyone has any information about what happened in Jackerath on February 27, 1945 please e-mail me at mikita2hull@gmail.com. Thank you.

My father was Gern Ingram T/4 CO A 821st TDBN. He served in France and Germany. He passed away 15 years ago and, unfortunately or not, never really spoke much about his time in the service. My mother recently took ill and looking through various pictures, cards and letters, I found numerous photos of my father and some of his buddies from the war. My father played the sax, and some pictures show him in a dance type band with the 821st insignia. Some of the photos contain messages and names on the backs. I’ll list the names, maybe they will bring back memories. Jake, Tom, Stud, Eight Ball, Baloney, Yantz, Mossey, Gooch, Baker, Lt. Mosser, Bud, Bill, Jerry, Forney, Reinhack (?), Baecker (?), Meisbach, Ernie, Doc, Mike, Sgt. McEvoy. There are some dates listed: March 1944, November 1944. Places listed; Beine, France; Olde, Germany; Camp St. Victoret; and Marsielle, France. I will try to email the photos for anyone who is interested. My father brought back a German helmet, which has various towns printed on it, that he went through. I will take some photos of it and send it later. He also had a picture frame made out of plexiglass type material from a plane. On one side is the 821st logo and on the other a photo of him and my mother. He told me that a prisoner of war carved it out and made it, polishing smooth with toothpaste. I will also photo it later. I am so glad to have found your website, even though it would have been nicer had my father still been around. Maybe someone remembers him, he was tough to miss, about 6’4” tall and probably 150 lbs. My grandfather, Ignatius Lana, was in Co. C of the 821st. He was seriously wounded in France in 1944. He died in 1988 having told very few people of his experiences. Any word from those who knew him would be greatly appreciated.
